WHO WE ARE
Established in 2020 and officially affiliated with Warwick SU in early 2021, Warwick PLAN (Professional LGBTUA+ and Allies Network) is a student-led society at the University of Warwick that is designed to connect LGBTUA+ students with exclusive career opportunities and support. When finding internships and learning about companies, students with minority sexual orientations and gender identities have the added issue of discovering how open and accepting firms are of LGBT+ professionals. By highlighting upcoming events put on by companies that are committed to providing a safe working environment for their LGBT+ staff, we hope to help our society's members in their endeavour to find an accepting workplace.
OUR MISSION
18% of LGBT people who were looking for work said they were discriminated against because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity while trying to get a job in 2018
35% of LGBT staff hid or disguised that they are LGBT at work in 2018 because they were afraid of discrimination
18% (almost 1 in 5) of LGBT staff have been the target of negative comments or conduct from work colleagues in the last year because they're LGBT
As a top ten UK university (The Times, 2021) the University of Warwick has a strong reputation for producing some of the most employable graduates in the UK. This can be partially attributed to the general careers support of well-established student societies such as Warwick Law Society, Warwick Finance Societies and Warwick Consulting Society, as well as targeted support from societies that focus on protected groups, such as Warwick Women's Careers Society and various cultural societies. However, up until now, there has been no specific service dedicated to the career progression of LGBTUA+ students in our community - this is where Warwick PLAN comes in.
